STORYLINE:

China has been playing a pivotal role in deepening South-South cooperation through key initiatives and institutions, helping to boost the development of countries in the Global South, said Selcuk Colakoglu, a Turkish scholar.

"We see that like the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the Belt and Road Initiative, there are some initiatives and also some institutions built by China or led by China, to help and boost the development of the Global South countries."

Colakoglu noted that the Global Development Initiative (GDI) proposed by China offers a model of high-quality growth.

"The Global Development Initiative is providing the Chinese way of development, and also the Chinese way of international development cooperation.
There is a need for coordination for South-South cooperation.
Leading Global South countries under the framework of the BRICS, United Nations, G20 and other international organizations, they need to coordinate these policies to boost development and cooperation, particularly with the relatively least developed countries in the Global South."
