Goalkeeper sent off for punching opposition striker
A goalkeeper was sent off for punching an opponent during a football match in Thailand.
Footage shows how the goalie collided with his teammate who was chasing the ball with an opposing striker during the eigh-a-side game in Lampang, Thailand, on September 24.
As he tried to block the ball, he bumped into the defender, who was knocked over, before turning furious at the leading team Saowalakkul's striker.
Live coverage footage from the game shows the goalkeeper, wearing a striped yellow and black shirt, punching the opponent in the head.
The other players rushed to separate them and prevent it from escalating during the Over-35s match in the Football Lampang Arena League 2024
The goalkeeper was given a red card. The opposing team Saowalakkul won by 4-1.
After the game, the striker Saranyou Songsan said: ‘Since I started playing football, I have never played against the rules or been violent towards opponents.
‘I would apologise to my opponent when I accidentally kicked them. I never thought I would be hurt by someone like this, especially when they collided with their own defender.
‘I did nothing to them. Why would they assault me?'
League organisers said they would investigate the incident and discuss possible legal actions with the team owners and the players involved.
