China's first home-grown civil manned airship delivered

China's first domestically developed and manufactured civil manned airship, the AS700 "Xiangyun", was recently delivered to its owner, a Chinese general aviation company who say they will begin sightseeing missions with it soon.
Developed by the Special Vehicle Research Institute under the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the 10-seat blimp can hold a maximum weight of 4,150 kilograms and can stay airborne for as long as 10 hours.
According to its owner, the airship will be used primarily for aerial sightseeing in southern China’s Yangshuo County, an area known for its picturesque karst peaks.
At the delivery ceremony, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China signed contracts to produce 12 additional AS700s.
Other application scenarios for the blimps include aerial advertising, urban security and emergency rescue operations.
