STORYLINE:

China's economic growth and technological improvements have created opportunities for global collaboration, including with Indonesia, said Hayati Nufus, an Indonesian scholar in an interview with Xinhua.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Indonesian): HAYATI NUFUS, Researcher, Team head of China Research at National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia
"China has also significantly contributed to the world economy. So China's success is also a success for the world economy. This significant contribution has also created opportunities for other countries to collaborate with China.
With technology developed by China, China has also opened up opportunities for technology transfer to countries in need. For example, in Indonesia, we know that we have collaborated with China in building high-speed trains and other infrastructure. This is certainly a profitable thing for Indonesia because Indonesia can learn from China's technology to develop its own infrastructure."

Nufus also pointed out that Chinese investment has helped Indonesia bridge regional disparities by directing resources to less developed areas.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Indonesian): HAYATI NUFUS, Researcher, Team head of China Research at National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Indonesia
"If you look at the current data, Chinese investment is actually being realized a lot in regions of Indonesia that previously received little attention, such as Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and other regions, which of course will be beneficial for Indonesia in terms of reducing the development gap between regions in our country. That's one thing that may be different from other investments.
Then another thing is that I see that China is willing to listen to what Indonesia really needs. For example, in the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park, China is willing to help Indonesia advance the development of the nickel industry, creating added value. It's not just about investing."
