The Great Fire burned down a number of traditional Toraja traditional houses in Indonesia.

two traditional Toraja tongkonan houses, and 2 residents' houses, as well as 4 rice barns, were destroyed by fire and razed to the ground, in Indonesia.

A major fire hit the Tongkonan Pollo' Tondok complex in Peraroan Hamlet, in Lembang Embatau village, Tikala District, North Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia on September 18 2024.

The fire, which occurred at around 03.00 WITA in the morning, destroyed two traditional Toraja tongkonan houses and four rice barns. Apart from that, two houses belonging to residents, consisting of one stone house and one house on stilts, were also destroyed by fire.

"It is known that as a result of the fire, as many as 4 heads of families and dozens of other family members lost their homes," said Rianto Yusuf, Head of the North Toraja fire brigade.

The cause of the fire which occurred when almost all residents were still fast asleep at dawn is not yet known.

There were no casualties in this incident, but material losses are estimated at billions of rupiah.
