Terrifying moment giant panda charges and knocks zookeeper to ground in China
On September 19, at Chongqing Zoo, a giant panda named Ding Ding suddenly chased and attacked a zookeeper as visitors watched on in horror.
That morning, the caretaker was performing her routine duties when she noticed the giant panda attempting to enter a restricted passageway. The member of staff quickly pushed a metal gate to prevent Ding Ding from entering, but since the gate wasn’t locked, it bounced back.
The panda continued trying to enter the passage, and the employee forcefully closed the gate again to block its way.
As the zookeeper turned away to attend to other tasks, Ding Ding suddenly began chasing her and quickly knocked her to the ground. The unexpected incident frightened the onlookers, who started screaming, and the atmosphere became tense.
Though shocked by the attack, the woman remained calm and, while lying on the ground, kicked at Ding Ding to drive it away. After struggling for more than 10 seconds, the keeper managed to escape from the panda and quickly fled the scene.
Following the incident, staff at Chongqing Zoo promptly checked on both the zookeeper and Ding Ding. According to zoo personnel, the woman sustained no serious injuries, received timely medical attention at the hospital, and was confirmed to be safe. Ding Ding also returned to normal behaviour, with its eating and activities unaffected.
Records show that Ding Ding is a female giant panda, born on August 30, 2015, at Chongqing Zoo.
