Fishermen rescue sea turtle stuck in ghost nets and ocean trash
A kind fisherman rescued a sea turtle stuck in ghost nets and ocean trash.
The trawler's boat spotted the reptile caught under the pile of strings and plastics off the coast of Bulon Island in Satun province, Thailand, on August 17.
Footage shows one of the men pulling the net with the sea turtle onto his vessel. He then used a knife to cut the strings entangled around its body before releasing it.
A few days later, he found a bigger sea turtle stuck in the net again and helped free it.
Ghost nets are abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing nets that continue to drift through the oceans, posing a serious threat to marine life. Made from durable synthetic materials, these nets can remain in the water for decades, trapping fish, turtles, birds, and other marine creatures.
