09/19/2024 11:47 pm (GMT-0700) | EL MONTE, Calif. – El Monte PD and LACoFD, along with ELA CHP, responded to a traffic collision with a vehicle that flew off the roadway and into the Rio Hondo wash and ejected the driver into the wash from the eastbound 10 Freeway into the bus turn-out station at Santa Anita Avenue in El Monte. Once firefighters and officers arrived at the scene, they located a victim in the wash. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters and paramedics. El Monte PD flew their drone to look for any other victims. It is unknown at this time how the crash occurred or if speed or alcohol was a factor. CHP from the East Los Angeles Station will handle the fatal traffic collision investigation. CHP issued a Sig Alert for the eastbound 10 Freeway.
