Pet dog swims to safety through floods in Thailand
A pet dog swam through a flooded neighbourhood to reach safety in Thailand.
The pooch was spotted floating through the deluge, looking for higher ground, when a good Samaritan called it and welcomed it to his home in Chiang Rai province on September 11.
Footage shows the canine treading through the water when a kind resident, Joe Chaiwat, saw it. It was about to turn to the street when Joe lured the mutt to join him in taking refuge on the second floor of his house.
Joe said: ‘It seemed alone and lost. I think its owners left their home without it. I felt sorry for the dog.'
The rescue came during Typhoon Yagi, which ravaged the northern part of Thailand, triggering floods and landslides that killed 42 people.
Yagi is Asia's most powerful storm this year. It originated in the Philippines and devastated Vietnam, Laos, and the Chinese holiday island of Hainan.
It has killed more than 500 people in Southeast Asia, with hundreds missing.
Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
