A dramatic incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Pune on Friday when a large sanitation truck belonging to the civic department fell into a sinkhole near the City Post Office. The driver of the truck, which was being used to clean drainage lines, narrowly escaped harm thanks to the quick actions of a local.
At around 4 PM on Friday, chaos erupted in Pune's densely populated Budhwar Peth area. A large jetting machine truck, used for cleaning drainage lines, was swallowed by a massive sinkhole that suddenly opened up on the road. The surface, made of interlocking cement blocks, collapsed beneath the truck, causing it to sink dramatically into the pit.
The truck's driver was trapped momentarily, but in a fortunate turn of events, a local resident rushed to the scene just in time, pulling the driver out of the cabin as the rear of the vehicle continued to slide into the sinkhole. Miraculously, the driver was unharmed.
According to fire officials, the driver emerged from the incident without injuries. Authorities are now investigating what led to the sinkhole's sudden appearance in such a densely populated area.
Residents have expressed concern over the infrastructure, as this area is heavily trafficked. Local authorities have cordoned off the area, and repair work is expected to start soon to prevent further incidents.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident, but this is a stark reminder of the importance of road maintenance and safety, especially in areas with such heavy traffic.
