Out-of-control car skids on sand-littered road and crashes into expat's home
An out-of-control car skidded on a sand-littered road and crashed into a home.
The black vehicle veered off its lane and drifted on the construction material that spilt from the back of a delivery truck in Chonburi, Thailand, on September 18.
CCTV footage shows the out-of-control sedan going off course before smashing into the steel gate of a property.
It demolished the structure before hitting a garage and the house owner's parked sedan.
The expat who owns the house, Bodi, said he and his Thai wife noticed the sandy road outside their home before the crash.
He said: ‘There was rubble and sand on the road. I mentioned to my wife that an accident might happen and shortly after leaving, we received a call that a car had crashed into our home.'
Their steel fence gate was detached from the impact, and the black car's female driver was rushed to Banbung Hospital to treat her injuries.
Bodi said: ‘She had a head wound but was awake when found. Rescuers came here and transported her to the hospital.'
The expat's gate was damaged estimated to be worth 60,000 baht (1,365.91 GBP).
Bodi added: ‘I do not blame her for the fence. I wish her a fast recovery. However, I urge truck drivers to ensure their cargo to avoid these accidents.'
A police officer from Klong Kiew Police Station said: ‘We have checked security cameras at the scene for the plate number of the truck that might have spilt rubble on the road.
‘We plan to summon the truck owner and driver for investigation to proceed with legal action and hold them accountable for the incident.'
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
