This is the moment firecrackers exploded during a Hindu procession in India.

Seven women were reportedly injured during the Ganesh idol immersion in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on September 19.

The Sivasneh Ganesh Mandal was heading to the Shri Krishna temple when some of the fireworks scattered, with burning embers hitting worshippers.

Footage shows men and women playing drums when they heard a loud bang, followed by smouldering ashes falling on the crowd, triggering a stampede-like situation.

An official from Umred police station said the victims were immediately rushed to the hospital, with four in critical condition.

A case has also been filed against the mandal workers under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Maharashtra Police Act, according to a local report.

Hindu processions and festivals often light fireworks, as they believe these symbolise the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

Hundreds of worshippers were victims of firecracker-related incidents over the past few years, with the largest incident that occurred at the Puttingal Devi Temple in 2008, which claimed 111 lives.
