India: Tragic road accident in northern India: truck crushes scooty riders

A tragic road accident in northern India’s Uttarakhand claimed the life of a 28-year-old man after a truck hit a scooty, leaving another rider with minor injuries. The truck driver fled the scene after the incident.

The incident took place near 6th Pulia in the Raipur area of Dehradun on September 20.

Visuals showed two men were riding on a scooty, traveling along the road when suddenly, a truck approached from the opposite direction. The truck collided with the scooty, crushing the riders beneath it before moving a little further ahead and finally coming to a stop. People nearby, witnessing the accident, quickly rushed over to help and began pulling the two trapped men out from under the truck.

The accident occurred at Raipur Chowk as Sivankar Bahuguna (28) and his friend Vijendra Rawat were crossing the road on their scooty. The truck, coming from the 6th Pulia Raipur direction, hit the scooty, causing Sivankar, who was riding pillion, to fall under the truck’s tires. Sivankar died instantly on the spot, while Vijendra sustained minor injuries.

Eyewitnesses quickly informed the police and helped remove the victims from under the truck. The police arrived shortly after and sent Sivankar’s body for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which the police are reviewing to further their investigation. The deceased, Sivankar Bahuguna, was working at the Raipur Stadium vehicle parking lot. A case has been registered against the truck driver based on the family's complaint.
