STORYLINE:

The 2024 World Manufacturing Convention in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, is highlighting the latest products and innovations in the manufacturing sector.

Themed "Intelligent Manufacturing for a Better Future," the four-day convention features exhibitions, forums and seminars across a 20,000 square meter area.

The 1.8-meter-tall humanoid robot Qijiang-2, developed by Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Humanoid Robots, is certainly hogging the spotlight at the event.

Equipped with advanced sensors and intricate inertial measurement units, Qijiang-2 can perform delicate tasks such as folding clothes, opening bottles, wiping dishes and navigating uneven terrain.

Beyond its physical capabilities, the robot also has decision-making features including intelligent user recognition and secure access for authorized users.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): TIAN YINGMEI, Engineer of Qijiang-2 developing team
"Qijiang-2 is a humanoid robot independently developed by our center. It can make real-time interactions with us. In the future, we will add some functions like emotional recognition or monitoring the state of the human body. It will be used in elderly and child care."

Held since 2018, the World Manufacturing Convention has to date attracted over 600 top executives from Fortune 500 companies. More than 3,600 projects have been signed at the event, generating actual investment of over 1.5 trillion yuan (about 212 billion U.S. dollars).
