Thailand railway market disaster as train crashes into metal pole from parasol
A train that was driving through a popular railway market tourist spot in Thailand suffered a smashed windscreen when it was hit by a stall parasol.
The locomotive was slowly passing through the narrow path crowded with tourists when the accident happened at the Maeklong Railway Market in Samut Songkhram on September 20.
Footage shows the passenger train pausing as it pulls the retractable awning with it when the shopkeeper was unable to move it out of the way.
The vehicle was travelling slowly for safety as the area has become an unlikely destination for visitors who want to see the stall holders clearing away their wares each time a train arrives.
No one was hurt. The parasol from the shop was only misaligned and fixed back by the owner afterwards.
A tourist said: 'The parasol pierced through the train window. I'm surprised more trains are not damaged.'
The Maeklong Railway Market in Thailand is famous for having a train pass through it several times a day. When the train approaches, vendors quickly move their goods and awnings away from the tracks. Once the train passes, they resume their usual market activities on the railway.
