STORYLINE:
Chinese new technologies and solutions have been introduced in Iraq to bolster the country's energy sector.
The drilling tech platform "Xuanji" system, developed by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), has greatly helped boost Iraq's oil exploitation capability since it was used in oilfields in 2020.
The "Xuanji" system can accurately control the drill bit thousands of meters underground to target the oil layer and realize real-time analysis of the stratigraphic data, which helps reduce the development cost of oil-gas fields.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): HUSSEIN MUHAMMAD, Iraqi engineer, China Oilfield Services Limited Iraq Branch, a subsidiary of CNOOC
"China Oilfield Services Limited has strong technical capabilities. Many of its self-developed technologies, including the Xuanji system, have secured a leading position worldwide. The application of China's advanced drilling and exploitation technologies in Iraqi oilfields will inject new impetus into the upgrade of our country's energy exploitation capabilities."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): XIA YI, Deputy General Manager of China Oilfield Services Limited Iraq Branch, a subsidiary of CNOOC
"Led by innovation-driven concept, China Oilfield Services Limited has introduced its self-developed technologies, represented by the Xuanji system, into oilfield development in Iraq, and leveraged China's experience and solutions to promote the efficient oil exploitation in Iraqi oilfields. This has greatly optimized and upgraded the Iraqi energy industry, and improved the livelihood of the local people."
Iraq's economy heavily relies on crude oil exports, which account for about 90 percent of the country's revenues.
