Cape Town community blocks intersection. during peak hour traffic over electricity tariffs
Cape Town, South Africa - 23 September 2024: Residents of the gang and crime riddled community of Lavender Hill protested against electricity tariffs and the installation of new electricity boxes by blocking the intersections of Prince George Drive (M5) and Joe Marks Boulevard during peak hour traffic. The residents claim the new pre-paid boxes consume electricity at a higher rate than the older prepaid boxes. Peak hour traffic had to be redirected and Cape Town Law Enforcement officers monitored the largely peaceful protest.
