This is the shocking moment a massive wave wipes out mobile phones one after another, smashing into tourists' hands as they try to film it.

Footage shows the huge wave sweeping down the Qiantang River as people record, shortly before it picks up speed and suddenly knocks several mobile phones into the water on September 19.

The river in East China is an essential commercial river as it snakes through a 285-mile (459-kilometre) stretch of the country. However, it is more famous for being home to the world's biggest tidal bore, known locally as the 'Silver Dragon.'

A tidal bore total occurs when the leading edge of the incoming tide forms a wave that gets higher as the river narrows and becomes less deep, compressing the water. In this river, the wave can reach heights of up to 30ft (nine metres) as it travels up the river or narrow bay at speeds of 40 kph (25 mph).
