This is the amusing moment a female loggerhead sea turtle makes her way back to the sea after laying eggs in North Carolina.

Footage released by Cape Hatteras National Seashore shows the marine animal undertaking her challenging journey back to the ocean after nesting in the sands of the beach on September 3.

Loggerhead turtles are characterised by their large heads and powerful jaws. Their upper shells are slightly heart-shaped and reddish-brown in adults and sub-adults, while the underside is generally a pale yellowish color.

These turtles are found globally, primarily in the subtropical and temperate regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea.

Loggerhead sea turtles are long-lived, with lifespans of 70 to 80 years or more. Females reach maturity at about 35 years of age. Every 2 to 3 years, they mate in coastal waters and return to nest on a beach near the area where they hatched decades earlier.
