Novorossiysk, Russia - September 10, 2024

These images show Russian experts detonating a rusting World War II bomb.

The footage shows the bomb being hoisted into a vehicle before the camera cuts to it as it is then detonated safely.

Bizarrely, the Russian authorities said that the bomb was a FAB-500 from World War II, despite the original model being rolled out in 1954, nine years after the end of the war.

The images were obtained from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Rostov Region with a statement saying: "The day before, a FAB-500 aerial bomb from the Great Patriotic War was destroyed at the Raevsky training ground in the suburbs of Novorossiysk. It was discovered at a construction site in the village of Myskhako.

"The bomb disposal operation was carried out by the Don Rescue Centre of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

"Another 'dangerous find' was discovered on the grounds of a business in the north of Volgograd. During earthworks, workers noticed an explosive object resembling a shell from the Second World War.

"Upon the arrival of pyrotechnicians from the Don Rescue Centre, it was identified as an SD 50 aerial bomb of the German army.

"The explosive finds, which had been lying underground for decades, had undergone significant corrosion. Therefore, they were transported to the training ground and detonated."
