Makayla made a beautiful difference in 2024 by inviting Poppy, a high school student with Down syndrome, to his first-ever homecoming dance at Cheyenne High School.

Poppy had never been asked to attend a school dance, so Makayla and her mother decided to make his wish come true. They surprised Poppy with a dozen flowers at his home, and Makayla asked him to be her date.

Overjoyed, Poppy hugged her, shed happy tears, and emotionally accepted the invitation.

My daughter Makayla ask poppy to homecoming because poppy never been asked to homecoming since he started high school. Makayla meet poppy last year in his freshman year at Cheyenne high school. This year 2024 Makayla and I came up with taking someone special that doesn’t ever get asked to anything because they are different from other children’s, so my daughter Makayla decided to take the step on asking poppy to his first dance of homecoming and poppy was so excited to join her.
