Englewood, United States - September 22, 2024

In a wild twist to urban wildlife sightings, a majestic bull elk found himself navigating the bustling streets of Englewood, Colorado, over a busy weekend. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Northeast Region was quick to respond after the animal was spotted near the intersection of Santa Fe and Hamden, close to major highways—an environment far removed from his natural habitat.

The elk's unexpected journey took him from Lakewood, through Denver, and into the heart of Englewood, drawing concern and fascination from residents. Recognizing the dangers posed to both the elk and public safety, CPW officers sprang into action.

With precision and care, wildlife officers darted the elk to safely immobilize him. After ensuring the animal's well-being, they transported him in a trailer to a more suitable habitat. The relocation was not just about moving the elk but also about preserving his wild instincts; upon release, officers made noise and yelled to maintain the elk's natural fear of humans, crucial for his survival.
