Montecatini Val di Cecina, Italy - September 23, 2024

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, emergency services in Montecatini Val di Cecina, Pisa, have been tirelessly searching since last night for a five-month-old baby and his grandmother, who went missing amid devastating floods caused by the overflowing Sterza creek.

The family, including the baby's parents and grandfather, who are foreign tourists, were forced to seek refuge on the roof of their residence as floodwaters rose alarmingly. While the father, mother, and grandfather were rescued from the rooftop, the fate of the baby and grandmother remains unknown, sparking a massive search operation.

Rescue teams, including firefighters, divers, river rescue units, dog handlers, drone operators, and regular emergency squads, are engaged in the operation. The area has been turned into a hive of activity, with every resource mobilized to find the missing family members.

Meanwhile, the region of Pisa continues to deal with the aftermath of severe weather, which has caused widespread damage. The focus, however, remains on the critical search and rescue efforts for the infant and his grandmother, with the community holding its breath for any news.
