France - September 20, 2024

MEDITERRANEAN SEA - In the vast expanse of the Mediterranean Sea, the USS New York (LPD 21) executed a critical replenishment-at-sea (RAS) operation with the Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Medgar Evers (T-AKE-13) on September 20, 2024. This maneuver, demonstrating the U.S. Navy's logistical finesse, ensures the ship remains combat-ready while on a crucial mission within the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa (NAVEUR-NAVAF) area of operations.

The RAS, a ballet of naval logistics, involves transferring fuel and various supplies while both vessels maintain speed and alignment in often challenging sea conditions. For the USS New York, part of the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG) with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC), this operation is more than routine; it's a strategic necessity for sustaining prolonged operations away from its home port.

This replenishment at sea allows the ship to continue its deployment in the Eastern Mediterranean, supporting U.S., Allied, and partner interests. It underscores the Navy's commitment to promoting regional stability and deterring potential aggression through a sustained and robust naval presence.
