A huge python emerged from under a family's wooden floorboards as it entered their home at night.

CCTV footage shows the 18ft snake slithering out of the space beneath the elevated flooring in Chanthaburi province, Thailand, on August 24.

It was spotted by a one-year-old pet dog named Lhong which began barking to alert a grandmother about the wild animal.

The serpent stayed close to the corner of its hiding space so the elderly woman did not see it immediately.

However, it was later discovered as it tried to hide under the dining room table before the grandmother called her husband for help.

House owner Tasanamon said: ‘The snake came into our house while Lhong was sleeping deeply, but it woke up and called us. Our pet dog saved us from the snake.'

The husband called animal rescuers for help who dragged the snake to the front yard and secured it in a sack.

They brought with them the python to be released into the wild.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
