A hero neighbour climbed onto a building ledge with a water hose to help control the fire while waiting for rescuers.

Ridwan Ash Siddiq, 42, was at his shop on the third floor of the Synergy KB Industrial Building when they heard the emergency sirens in Singapore on September 19.

While workers and residents were rushing to flee, Ridwan went up two floors and dragged a long hose out of the window so he could try to douse the blaze.

Footage shows Ridwan alone on the daredevil mission as he drizzled water into the thick smoke and large flames.

He said: ‘I just did what I felt was needed doing that time. I did my best to spray water, but the smoke was unbearable.'

When the explosions began, and the fire spread to a unit above, Ridwan said he had to leave.

He said: ‘They told me the firetrucks were coming, and the water from our hose was no match for the big fire.'

Ridwan was unhurt, and the fire did not spread to other floors, so volunteers responded to control the blaze.
