US: Boyle Heights Pedestrian Fights With 2 CHP Officers
Los Angeles, United States - September 23, 2024
09/23/2024 10:38 pm (GMT-0700) | BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES – A pedestrian became combative when California Highway Patrol officers attempted to remove him from a Los Angeles Freeway.
At approximately 10:38 p.m. Monday, CHP East Los Angeles Area officers noticed a pedestrian running in lanes on the southbound 101 Freeway near 4th Street. Officers attempted to get the pedestrian off the freeway to a safer location, according to the CHP.
The pedestrian was not compliant and became combative, fighting both officers. Officers at the scene requested additional backup from neighboring CHP and Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Division officers.
After struggling for several minutes, additional officers arrived and assisted in taking the pedestrian into custody.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the area of 7th and Anderson streets in Boyle Heights to evaluate the officers involved and the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was captured on KNN video at the scene wearing a spit mask as he sat in the back seat of a patrol vehicle.
Additionally, CHP ran a warrants check on the pedestrian that revealed that there was an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon in the amount of $300,000, according to the CHP.
The pedestrian was transported to Los Angeles General Hospital for medical clearance before being booked at Los Angeles County Sheriff's Inmate Reception Center.
According to the CHP, the pedestrian did not sustain any injuries, and one officer sustained a minor injury during the incident.
