Impressive footage shows how a collector restores old film reels with delicate craftsmanship.

The man carefully trims the film strips and skillfully reassembles them into a small white frame. He then places the reels into a special device under the light, causing the dark images to transform into glowing, coloured scenes.

British photographer Eadweard Muybridge invented the first movie projector in 1879 when films were just a single scene and only a minute long.

Digital projection only replaced reel projection in 2013, though some companies still sell film reels for cameras to this day.
