Investigators uses underwater robot to explore Titan submersible wreckage
Investigators have used underwater robots to explore the wreckage of the Titan submersible.
The video captured by the Marine Board of Investigation shows the salvage operation of the vessel's remnants nearly 2.5 miles below the surface where it met its tragic end last June.
Guillermo Sohnlein, a co-founder of OceanGate, the company behind the Titan, expressed hope at the hearings that the catastrophe would not deter future deep-sea explorations. Despite his departure from OceanGate prior to the incident, Sohnlein maintains that 'this can't be the end of deep ocean exploration'.
The Titan, operated by OceanGate, is believed to have imploded on June 18, 2023, during an expedition to the Titanic wreck site, resulting in the immediate deaths of five people on board. The victims included Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate; British businessman Hamish Harding; British-Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood; and French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
The sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912 remains one of the most famous maritime disasters in history. There are a number of theories as to why the vessel sank, but the official conclusion remains that the Titanic sank due to a combination of human error, design flaws, and an unfortunate iceberg collision.
