Catholics clambered to touch a metal dome during a religious procession in the Philippines.

Footage shows the devotees crowding around the silver-coloured mound where a statue of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of Penafrancia sat in Naga City, the Philippines on September 21.

Another Marian image was being carried on a similar dome, which the devotees pulled to parade around the city before taking it to church.

One of the worshippers, Janver Orbista, said: ‘We were all teary-eyed at that moment. Life has many struggles, but our faith helps us survive it all.'

Filipinos are predominantly Catholic due to more than 300 years of historic Spanish rule. Missionaries introduced Catholicism, which became deeply integrated into local culture and governance.
