This is the hilarious moment a clumsy panda broke a chair at a zoo in China.

Lingyan was scratching its back when it suddenly fell to the ground at Luanchuan Bamboo Sea Wildlife Park in Luoyang, Henan, on September 23.

Footage shows the colourful plastic chair collapsing under the weight of the bi-coloured mammal, causing it to topple over. The panda immediately stood up as if nothing had happened.

A worker said that the panda did not sustain any injuries from the comical mishap.

Pandas were once on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss and low birth rates. This prompted the government to take action, resulting in the status of pandas being downgraded from 'endangered' to 'vulnerable' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2016.

China has established several panda breeding centres, such as the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, to help increase their population. These centers also conduct research on the animals' behaviour and health.
