SOUNDBITE (German): HUBERT AIWANGER, Deputy minister-president of the German state of Bavaria
"I am convinced that we need to work together more fairly again and I also believe that China has very good products that it also sells in Germany, especially cars. And we don't want the European Union to impose punitive tariffs. We want them to still be able to export their cars to Europe. In return, of course, we want our German car companies, which are also active in China, to continue to have open market access there."

Aiwanger told Xinhua that he would be visiting China soon, and he is interested in having discussions with the Chinese side regarding the cooperation in high-tech areas.

"We can further intensify economic cooperation and continue to work together on a basis of trust. Bavaria has three partner provinces in China and this time I will be traveling to Beijing and Shenzhen, among other places. I hope that I can (help) further deepen economic relations and that the direct investment by both China in Bavaria and Bavaria in China will continue to grow again."
