Taal Volcano spewed gas amid steam-driven eruptions on Thursday.

Footage shows a smoke cloud billowing from the volcano in Batangas province, the Philippines, at around 5:30 pm on September 26.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said Taal had a 'minor' phreatic eruption earlier at 12:39pm. The agency said: 'Locally called as 'pusngat,' the event produced a 2400-metre-high (1.5 miles) eruption plume that drifted northwest. Alert Level 1 prevails over Taal Volcano.'

In its September 26 bulletin, PHIVOLCS said there were two volcanic tremors lasting between three to nine minutes recorded at Taal over a 24-hour period. The volcano had a sulfur dioxide flux of 3176 tonnes per day.

Alert Level 1 was raised indicating possible gas-driven explosions, minor ashfall, and volcanic earthquakes.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
