STORYLINE:
A new cross-border multimodal transportation service linking China, Laos and Thailand was launched Tuesday in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Fresh vegetables from Yunnan in refrigerated containers departed Kunming for the Vientiane South Station via the China-Laos Railway, and then were directly transported to the wholesale markets in Thailand by road.
The whole trip only takes three and a half days as layovers for customs clearance are saved, which reduces logistics costs by 30 percent and increases transport efficiency by 40 percent, compared with segmented transport modes.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): TANG HENG, General Manager of Yunnan Tengjin Logistics Co., Ltd.
"As customs of countries along the transport route all recognize our documents, it's unnecessary to change the containers during the transportation, which reduces costs and improves efficiency."
