A landslide hit a suspected illegal gold mine in Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The landslide occurred on Thursday afternoon, September 26, 2024, but as of Saturday afternoon, September 28, two miners were still missing at the scene.

This is one of the victims who was successfully evacuated from the scene at the Nagari Sungai Abu gold mine, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency. The victim was only able to reach the search post after a six-hour evacuation.

The evacuation was carried out manually by residents and the victim's family, using a wooden stretcher. The evacuation process was hampered by rain and the difficulty of lighting through the hills. The victim was then taken directly to the funeral home to be buried.

According to the Padang Class A Search and Rescue Office, a total of 25 miners were buried by the landslide. Of that number, 12 people died, 11 were injured and two others were still being searched for. As of Saturday afternoon, the search was still being carried out by the joint SAR team.

((SOT : Hendri / Head of Operations Section of Class A Padang Search and Rescue Office : The evacuation system we use is estavet. We will place the team at a specified distance. Hopefully with this system the evacuation can be faster. The personnel involved in the evacuation were 90 people from the community plus the army and police, and 40 members from Padang. Hopefully that can speed up the evacuation process.))
