"Almost all Maldivians, they love marathons, they love all kinds of sports in other words. So everybody wants to be active. So this event will actually bring more connection between the two nations, especially people-to-people connection will be strengthened and we will be more familiar with the people of China."

SOUNDBITE 2: (English) ISMAIL ALI, President of Laamu Atoll Council
"Laamu is a very natural beautiful atoll in the country. We have a very good opportunity to promote, because we have got a donation road from the Chinese government. So after constructing this road, people have started jogging and running in this island. So we just use this road. So by using this road we are having an opportunity to promote tourism and more people are attracted to travel here in this Laamu atoll. So this is the one reason that we are organizing this event."
