This is the skin-crawling moment thousands of gnats filled the air at sunset in China.

Flying insects swarmed onto the street in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, on September 21.

Footage shows the tiny flies hovering in the air, causing discomfort to nearby residents passing by during the golden hour.

While gnats are mostly harmless, they can potentially transmit infectious diseases to humans through biting.

University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment suggests that swarms of mating gnats are most commonly seen at dusk, and often appear for several days in a row, especially after wet or rainy periods.
