SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MARTON NAGY, Hungarian Minister for National Economy
"It's very important to see in Europe that Chinese technology is not a threat, not a danger. This is an opportunity for technological development. It is much better to cooperate.
The technology of the Chinese EV is very, very high. When I was in September, in Beijing, I got the opportunity to try out the new EV car which is on the market. This is an SUV car. It was technologically very, very advanced."
Nagy urged the EU, even the U.S. to invest more in research and development, and to foster healthy competition with China, which would ultimately benefit everyone.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MARTON NAGY, Hungarian Minister for National Economy
"The European Union and even the U.S., I think, should start to develop more, spend more (on) research and development and keep competing with Chinese (cars), which is good for everybody. We have to build more charging networks, to have infrastructure. And this is a real strategy to push the whole vehicle industry to the new era, the green transition."
Nagy also said that the Hungarian government supports economic openness and connectivity.
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): MARTON NAGY, Hungarian Minister for National Economy
"We are believing in a very open economy, its connectivity. So we are supporting, in the name of the government as well, the connectivity issue and the business relationship and business success in the continent. It's a win-win situation when Chinese companies come and enter the European Union market. I think now China is getting very, very strong economically and technologically, and this technological export is needed for the mankind. This can contribute to the development of each country."
