Crazed shopper kills three and injures 15 in knife attack in Shanghai
A crazed shopper killed three people and injured 15 others in a brutal knife attack in Shanghai, China.
CCTV footage shows the suspect surnamed Lin, 37, walking into a supermarket carrying a large knife on September 30. Bystanders screamed and ran away when he brandished his weapon and chased down customers in the store.
Gruesome photos showed several people lying in puddles of blood from the unprovoked attack.
Songjiang district police later subdued and arrested Lin, seen in a video looking around with crazed eyes.
The Songjiang Public Security Bureau said in a statement: 'At 21:47 on September 30, 2024, Songjiang Public Security Bureau received a report that a man in a supermarket on Songhui Middle Road had injured someone with a knife. After receiving the report, the police quickly arrived at the scene, and the suspect Lin (male, 37 years old) was arrested on the spot.'
Eighteen people were injured and rushed to a hospital. Three of the wounded died, while the rest were out of danger.
The police report said: 'According to preliminary investigations, Lin came to Shanghai to vent his anger due to personal economic disputes and carried out the above behaviour. The case is under further investigation.'
The knife attack came on the even of Chinese 'Golden Week' on October 1, during which a surge of holiday travel and shopping was expected.
