STORYLINE:
A severe flood crisis continues to grip several regions of Bihar, an eastern state in India, displacing thousands of people and causing extensive damage to infrastructure and agricultural land.
The situation worsened on Sunday when six barrages breached in 24 hours, leading to the overflow of major rivers.
In response to the worsening situation, authorities have issued a heavy rain and flood alert. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to assist.
According to the state water resources department, the situation remains dire as over 1.6 million people have been affected by the flooding.
The meteorological authority has warned of continued heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods in several districts, urging caution in the coming days.
