A family was shocked when they found an Indian spectacled cobra hiding under their car.

Sandeep Gargji was about to clean a white Suzuki sedan parked in the garage when he spotted the snake slithering in Haryana, India, on September 27.

Footage shows the serpent being searched by a reptile handler, contacted by the residents for help, from under the vehicle.

It was found under one of the wheels and the rescuer tried to drag it out with a metal hook but without success.

The vehicle had to be taken to a repair shop where they raised it on a hydraulic lift to see the cobra properly and remove some of its parts.

Wildlife rescuer Pawan Jogpal said: ‘I received a call from a villager who told us a snake entered his car. We went there and the snake was hiding underneath with its hood spread.'

Pawan eventually lured the snake out of the sedan and put in a sack. No one was hurt, and the snake was released into the wild unharmed.

The Indian cobra was named after distinct spectacle-like markings or eye-glass shapes on its hood, which it displays when threatened. Its venom contains a potent mix of neurotoxins and cytotoxins, which can affect the nervous system and cause paralysis, respiratory failure, or tissue damage.
