Dancer balances 30kg stack of pots on head in this awesome Filipino folk dance
Dancers balanced heavy stacks of pots on their heads for a performance during the Manila International Dance Festival.
Footage shows the artists swaying their hands to the side while toddling synchronously while performing their version of the folk dance ‘Banga Salidsid' in the Philippines on September 28.
One of them carried 13 pots weighing 4.7st (30kg) which she wore in front of the audience. She put a cloth on her head and balanced the objects before dancing around.
The other women in their troupe had their own smaller stacks while the men waved around hand-woven cloths.
The group's main dancer, Roselyn Layoc, said: ‘I was nervous that I would trip and fall, but I am very grateful that the show was successful.'
She added her colleagues from the Balangay Dance Troupe, and Rondalla prepared the choreography for one of the biggest performing arts events in the country.
Roselyn said: ‘I want to thank my troupe for trusting me once again.'
The Banga Salidsid is a traditional Filipino dance from the Kalinga tribe. 'Banga' refers to clay pots carried by women, who showcase their skill in balancing multiple pots on their heads. At the same time, 'Salidsid' is a courtship dance in which a man and woman gracefully imitate the movements of a rooster and hen.
The dance traditionally uses clay pots, but in the show, Roselyn and her group performed with fibreglass.
