Fisherman finds dead shark with stomach full of rubbish and fishing line
A fisherman discovered a dead shark filled with rubbish and fishing lines.
Wade Papenfus, 26, from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, was filming a video of himself speed fishing when he came across the shark at the bottom of the ocean.
The content creator, who frequently documents his island survival adventures and catches his own food, found the shark washed up on the shore of Mentawai Island in Indonesia.
"I found the shark on the bottom of the ocean and dragged it to the shore because I didn't know what was wrong with it," he said."
"I thought maybe it had swallowed something, so I cut open its belly and was shocked to find it completely filled with rubbish and fishing line."
"I assume it swallowed a fishing net and couldn't digest it."
Wade believes the shark had been dead for no more than two days and suspects it had swallowed a fish tangled in the fishing line, which led to its death.
Wade, who found it on August 8, said: "At first, I was confused."
"Then I saw the fishing net, and I was shocked."
"I became sad and angry. How could we do this to nature?"
"It's such a beautiful animal, and it died because of human greed." "
While he has encountered dead fish before, this is the first time he's found a shark killed by human pollution.
Wade said: "Finding the fishing line inside the shark was devastating."
"It was a tragic reminder of how desensitized we've become to the damage we're causing to marine life."
