This is the heartwarming moment locals rescued cats from a food in Thailand.

Supakorn Chomsir and Phitsanu Phuttasem heard the hapless feline stuck on a vine crying for help in Phayao, Thailand, on September 17.

Footage shows one of the men untangling the roots on the body of the soaking wet furry creature. After minutes of removing the plants, he gently carried the animal out of the water.

They also found another cat behind the tree and the rescuer retrieved the animal by grabbing it by its neck.

The cats were transported to the Department of Livestock Development to take care of them.

Phitsanu said: 'We are happy that we were able to help the animals. If we hadn't found them, they would have drowned and died.'

Thailand and its neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon season, which brings soaring temperatures followed by powerful rainstorms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
