Brazil: Disabled man in wheelchair stabs police officer in the back during stop and search for drugs
Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil - September 27, 2024
[Note: no sound]
This is the bizarre moment when a disabled man in a wheelchair stabs a police officer in the back during a routine street search for drug dealers.
The incident occurred near the streets Voluntarios da Patria and Garibaldi, the area known for being a place where drugs are sold and consumed in the central region of Porto Alegre, Brazil, on 27th September.
Surveillance camera footage shows two police officers conducting a search of suspects.
One of the suspects is placed facing a wall while waiting to be searched.
Suddenly, a man in a wheelchair approaches and attacks one of the officers with a knife, stabbing him in the back.
The officer turns around, touching his back and not understanding what's going on when his colleague points at the man in the wheelchair.
The stabbing did not reach the officer's vital organs, but he was hospitalised.
According to Mario Souza, director of the State Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP), it was a violent and unexpected attack.
The wheelchair attacker, a 31-year-old man, was arrested and faces attempted murder charges.
He has a history of drug trafficking and threats, according to the police.
