Boy, 5, takes polaroids for £2 a pop to raise money for school defibrillator
A little boy has managed to raise hundreds of pounds for a school defibrillator by charging guests at his uncle's wedding to take their photograph.
Finn McRorie, five, was sent on a mission by his school, Robert Owen Memorial Primary, Lanark, Scotland, to raise a total £2,000 for a defibrillator.
As part of the fundraising initiative, each student was given £1 last Monday (September 23) to help them find interesting ways to raise the money.
Just two days later, on September 25, was Finn's fifth birthday where he was gifted an instant polaroid camera, which is when the idea first sparked.
With his uncle's wedding the following weekend, Finn hatched a plan to charge £2 for each person who wanted him to take their picture.
In one night, Finn was able to raise £180 for his school, helped along by generous family members and friends.
Jordan McRorie, 34, Finn's dad who lives with him in Lanark, Scotland, said: "He was just so happy with every penny and every pound he got."
"He would squirrel the money away in his wallet to make sure it was safe."
"We got lucky with very generous family and friends who would hand him £5 or £10 notes, even when he said he didn't have change."
"Finn worked hard and ended up staying until the party was over at 1:30 am, which, especially for a five year old, is a very late night."
Video taken at the wedding by the official photographer drew significant attention and, after setting up a GoFundMe, Finn was able to raise a further £300.
Taking this into account, Finn managed to single-handedly raise nearly a quarter of the total funds needed for his school's defibrillator.
Jordan said: "It has been so wonderful to see the support shown."
"Some kids did great jobs selling baked goods or offering to wash cars, but Finn was able to score big with the polaroid scheme."
"His primary has been borrowing a defibrillator from a neighbouring school this past year, so it's good to know they'll hopefully have their own soon enough."
"Any additional money that gets donated will be used to fund other improvements around the school."
