A policeman reached his head under a drain to save a litter of newborn puppies.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Bamrung Chaoumpew and Police Lance Corporal Thatchapon Toonnew spotted a mother dog trying to dig the soil on the edge of a road. They checked on her in Singburi province, Thailand on September 27.

The cops heard the crying pooches and realised her babies had been trapped in the narrow space.

Footage shows one of the officers crawling through the ditch and retrieving the newborn pups one by one.

Sergeant Major Bamrung said: ‘It rained in the evening and we heard them crying in the morning. The mother had given birth there thinking it was a safe place for her puppies until it became flooded.'

They put the seven rescued puppies in a foam box and evacuated them to their office with the mum.

The dog family will stay in the police station while looking for a new family.
