US: Massive Smoke Cloud Engulfs Sky as Line Fire Rages Uncontrolled in San Bernardino
United States - October 03, 2024
Dramatic footage captured by CAL Fire on October 3rd reveals a colossal smoke cloud rising from the Line Fire, which has swiftly ravaged over 20,553 acres in San Bernardino County. Amidst an ongoing heatwave, the wildfire's rapid spread has necessitated the evacuation of thousands, painting a dire picture of the fire's impact under scorching conditions.
The Line Fire, nearly doubling in size overnight, remains at zero percent containment, presenting a formidable challenge to the hundreds of firefighters on the ground. Governor Gavin Newsom's emergency declaration on Saturday night has activated additional state resources to aid in the battle against the blaze.
Early Sunday morning, evacuation orders were issued for the entire communities of Running Springs and Arrowbear Lake, affecting over 6,000 residents. Further warnings were extended to residents of Green Valley Lake, Cedar Glen, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, and Valley of Enchantment, urging those with additional needs for evacuation, such as pet and livestock owners, to leave immediately.
The fire, fueled by triple-digit temperatures, has not only consumed vast areas but has also altered the local weather, creating pyrocumulus clouds akin to thunderstorm conditions. This phenomenon led to over 1,100 lightning strikes, exacerbating the fire's spread through what Cal Fire describes as "thunderstorm outflow winds," leading to unpredictable fire behavior.
