Hundreds of tourists stranded by Typhoon Krathon were taken home on a military plane in the Philippines.

Footage shows the holidaymakers boarding the Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft at Basco Airport in Batanes province on October 3.

Officials said 116 visitors were flown from the island into Villamor Air Base in Manila as flights in and out of the storm-battered region were cancelled.

Typhoon Krathon, locally named Julian, devastated the northern part of the country, triggering landslides and flooding that killed five people.

It then headed to Taiwan's port city of Kaohsiung, where it made landfall, killing two people and thousands evacuated.

Krathon has since weakened into a tropical depression and is expected to move towards China.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules was originally developed by the United States used for the transport of troops, cargo, and vehicles. The aircraft is equipped with a large rear door that can be opened in flight for parachute drops and airborne operations.
