Footage of a bowl of gas accidentally igniting and creating a flame ball as a famous YouTuber filmed a science video.

The clip, filmed in Australia this week, shows Jacob Strickling from the Make Science Fun YouTube channel accidentally singeing his eyebrows and hair.

Luckily, his two children, who were standing nearby, weren't hurt at all.

Jacob was demonstrating the flammability of propane gas, and how water can protect your skin because only the gas burns.

He wrote online that he couldn't decide whether to release the footage or not. He said he is "embarrassed the incident occurred as he has an excellent safety record, with no serious injuries after 20 years of Science teaching and numerous Science shows."

In this video, a bowl of gas bubbles is accidentally ignited, causing a large ball of flame to burn Jacob’s eyebrows and hair. Thankfully the two children were not injured in the slightest. The incident happened on the set of ‘Make Science Fun’ – Jacob’s Science YouTube Channel. He was demonstrating to the children the flammability of propane gas, but how water could protect your skin, as it was only the gas which burnt.
First Jacob added some liquid soap to a container which he mixed with some water. He then blew bubbles of gas using a propane bottle and hose. After wetting his hands with water, he scooped up the bubbles and Sam ignited them with a match….

Jacob was of two minds whether to release this footage or not. He is embarrassed that this incident occurred as he has an excellent safety record, with no serious injuries after 20 years of Science teaching and numerous Science shows.
Admittedly he may have been a little reckless in this instance. There was probably too much equipment on a small table, and he probably should have moved the bowl of gas bubbles out of the way of the flames. It was probably a good time to be wearing safety glasses. Letting a seven year old do the lighting with a match was also somewhat dubious. Nonetheless, Jacob has learnt from this incident and aims to continue to improve upon his safety standards in the future. Admittedly the footage does appear worse on screen then in real life, as it does not give depth of view. The children were standing well back when the ball of flame went up.
